Soooo at work today....

Theresa meets Tyler for the first time. Too bad he was so GRUMPY!

She says to me... wow does it freak you out that you have a son old enough to have Facial hair? And I'm like, what do you mean? So she says well, we're the same age, and my son is 13, but he doesn't have facial hair yet. I tell her - trust me it's coming.

See, the thing is that that kind of thing no longer freaks me out! I've gotten used to my incredibly handsome son and all that came with puberty. Facial hair, mood swings, eating me out of house and home, then refusing to eat, taking the public bus to school on his own, a gazillion girls calling all the time... these things come and go.

However, tonight... we've hit a milestone. Truly a once in a lifetime feeling that I am sure I will experience only a few more times in the next couple years. Like when he starts driving, or when he graduates highschool, gets his first job. Whatever they are... they will be profound. May I be cognitive enough to recognize them - big or small however they come.

Tonight, my son, walked over to the Target plaza on his own, with his $40 budget and went Christmas shopping. On his own. Without me to nag him to stay in budget. Without me to drive him. Without me to 'help' him pick out the perfect gifts for everyone. (I did however encourage him to make a list of who he was buying for, and then determine his 'budget' per person beforehe left)

Yes folks. Tonight was a milestone in the journey through teenage life.... and I survived.
