Do you have a traditional holiday cookie?
I do. Now don't get me wrong, these aren't tried and true handed down from generation to generation kind of cookies. Well... maybe they are but not in my family! My mom was never much of a cookie maker. If it didn't come from a package, which we rarely could afford, she rarely made them. Except peanut butter - I vaguely remember her making peanut butter cookies occasionally. on the rare ocasion that mom decided we could have an afternoon treat it was more likely to be cupcakes or something of that nature.
Mom wasn't stingy on the treats please understand... she's just not much of a cook. Wait, I don't mean she CAN'T cook... I just mean she doesn't ENJOY cooking.
Anyway... for me cooking/baking started when I was around 8yrs old. I've loved it and love to do it. Can't help it. It's something I look forward to every day, every season, every year. Something new and different, unusual... or even just the comforting familiarity in the same day to day treats and treasures.
So it's that time of year again when we start gathering family together. Planning parties and holiday excursions. Shopping and wrapping, and cooking and calling loved ones we haven't talked to since last year this time of year.
I love it! Right now I'm planning a party for this saturday. The menu is pretty normal. A turkey with stuffing, mashed potato's, some sort of veggie (probably just a tossed salad), a veggie tray, and of course deserts.
Desserts. Ah that brings me right back to my original thought. Cookies. Traditional holiday cookies. What cookies do you remember? Our traditional cookies are simple, and every year I try a new recipe. This year it will be chocolate citrus biscotti. I've never made a biscotti before but it looked simple when I saw Giada fix it on TV. (She and I are on a first name basis don'tcha know...lol - if you don't know Giada - please click here!)
So my traditional cookies are Snickerdoodles (Ty's fav's) Kris Kringles (Def NOT Ty's favs) Nut tarts and this year I am adding Chocolate Citrus Biscotti. I'll definitely let you know how it comes out :) I'm looking forward to it though I think it'll be great fun and taste delish. After all Everything Giada makes comes out great. Why wouldn't mine? LOL
Have a great night _ nut tarts are done and I'm about spent too. It's bedtime here in NY! :)
