A bed for you, a bed for me...

The other day, I posted about my kitchen furniture that I redid.

Then I worked really hard and got it linked up to 7 or 8 linky parties. Oh my goodness that was work let me tell you! So many people, so many sites, so many amazing projects! All my hard work paid off though, at least sort of, because I've had over 200 hits to that post alone since yesterday morning. That is the most traffic I've ever had to this website, almost ever. Well not really but it usually takes a month to have people looking at my blog that much!

I'm shocked though, because no one said one comment. Not one person signed up for my emails, or joined my site via Google. Just goes to prove, the internet conversation is so one sided!  The readers have all the power, and I am just the muse...

I'm over it :) at least people are looking right? Which is better than no one looking and then I'm technically talking to myself. Which is strange. Even for the internet.

I digress.

Anyway. Check this out. A new craigslist find. That place is a gold mine I tell you! A gold mine!

My son, is a bit of a fanatic. A 20yr old tattooed, pet store working, artist fanatic. When he wants something a certain way, we sort of just let it be that way, until I can prove to him that my ideas will look good, be affordable and won't take away his 'artistic' style in any way.

For years, he insisted we leave his mattress/box spring on the floor. He liked it low to the ground and that was that.

Well fine. Except that now we are selling the house, and people are coming to look at it, and we can't have it look like we are paupers living in a shack. People need to see furniture in order to see a purpose to a room.

That logic he got. And with his blessing we happily trotted off to a sweet woman's house who had a nice little Headboard / Footboard combo with metal frame for sale. For a really good price. And we went, and it was a nice set with good bones and a lot of potential.

On a side note, her yard looked like a super flea market. She lived on this beautiful little dead end side road with neatly manicured yards and lovely little porches. But her yard? FILLED from the front to the back with tarp covered Flea Market, yard sale loveliness. She said they'd recently had a 20 family yard sale.

Did you catch that? TWENTY families.

Where was I when this sale was going on?!?!?

Seriously, I'm sure she's her neighborhood's favorite house -.-

Anyway, the bed was ours and we brought it home, and I immediately got to work. On the foot board at least. The head board is still in the garage. We'll get there - hopefully this weekend will be nice and I can finish it. Not sure but we'll see!

The piece did need a little TLC on the left leg. Thankfully all the pieces were there, and a little wood glue and a rubber band were all that was needed to make it work.

First coat Annie Sloan Old White. Do you like my "workhorses"? yeah... I'm so cheap. I just used some old book shelves I had in the garage. Same concept - even if they are a little bulky - but they work good and make a good work surface!

First coat of Annie Sloan Paris Grey. I mixed it 2 parts paris gray, 1 part old white to give it a lighter color. Did one coat of Paris grey, and then distressed, heavily. After that I applied a second coat of Paris grey and viola. Foot board is done. Haven't done the wax yet. Might do that tonight before I go to bed. It doesn't take long. I use an old white Tshirt to buff it on, and let it dry, then a 2nd coat. Beautiful!

So this is it :) My son's footboard. I had a hard time getting a good picture of it because it kept trying to roll away (those casters really work!).

What do you think? Good distressing? too much distressing? Can't really see enough to make a judgement call?

Well, next we'll be working on the matching headboard, and a dresser we picked up this weekend. Trust me, the guy didn't know what he was selling. There's no way he knew... or he wouldn't have let it go so cheaply!

Fun!

So, tomorrow is Tye's birthday. He'll be 20. It doesn't even feel like that much time could have possibly passed since I first held him in my arms. Now, at 6' tall, 213lbs - he holds me when we hug :)

Since tomorrow is his Birthday, I'll wait to tomorrow to actually post his "birthday" pic... but for now, you can see what we're doing.

Tye is an "after school" counselor at the local YMCA, and of course, being super cool, and super fun, is one of the 'favorite' counselors.

Yesterday he said Mom? what are you doing tomorrow? oh... not much... being unemployed right now...lol He said, how do you feel about baking cupcakes for the Y? hahaha... um.. sure!

So, 3 boxes of cake mix, 3 cans of frosting later...we have about 75 cupcakes, one for every kid at the YMCA and maybe a few extra for some staff :)

I love being a mom - but I love being a friend just as much!

Ever heard that saying?

"One day you'll have kids, & I hope they turn out just like you!!"

Am I the only one on the planet who thinks this sounds more like a threat and a curse? Is that what's meant when you say this to your kids? Cause... I read it on FB the other day, and it got me thinking... I've got a son, who will be 20 next month. (Ain't he handsome?) And I was like, you know... I really DO hope he has kids who are just like him...and hopefully better!

I love my kiddo. He's smart, he's funny and makes me laugh all the time. He's attentive, and considerate. Thoughtful, friendly, sociable, kind, and caring. He is chivalrous, and generous. He's talented, creative and artistic. He is, exactly the sort of young man I hoped he would be when he was younger.

We've had our share of parent/child arguments, we've had our share of frustrations, on his part and on mine. But you know... having grown up in a non-peaceful home, the one thing I always said when he was young, and through his 'tween', and then his younger 'teenage' years was that "Our Home would NOT be a war zone, his teenage years will be the best of our lives together, we will have peace and harmony".

I have to believe that this is true, because of what I decreed over our lives for years, before we got there. I can personally testify to the fact that whenever people would 'warn' me about different seasons, and stages of our lives...Oh you know "oh you're in the terrible twos now, or oh you know those sneaky pre-teens, or those back talking teenagers" I'd just respond - these are the best days of our lives together! We will have peace and harmony!

And I have to say, as I reflect back on this year in particular, with all the changes and challenges that have come up, and with my kiddo leaving his teens, and entering into his more 'grown up' phase of life, I'm pretty darn proud.

Yum. Yum. Yumm and YUMMMOOOO

oh my gosh. take a look at this.

Ok are you wondering yet what it is? Well... I will not keep you in suspense and I will tell you! Tonight Tyler and I ran some errands - we ran over the clothes I bought for Zoey to my sister, and we ran over to Lisa & Sam's to deliver the KB tickets & parking ticket for Sunday. Well by the time we were leaving Lisa's house (8:30) it's easy to say we were both STARVING. So we hit up our entertainment book and found some coupons for a pizzeria we'd never tried before. Tony's Pizza.
We went up and had a really hard time deciding to order, so we went with a custom specialty pizza. If you don't know, Ty and I have a hard time ever agreeing on food. He's very plain, and I like to change it up a bit so just getting a regular pizza is never an option. However, tonight we were in luck because they had TONS of options to choose from. We finally settled on a half and half - custom! Tyler got a Chicken wing pizza, and I had Quatro Fromaggio - all on the same pizza! LOL
Hands down, this pizza was the best we'd ever had. These guys KNOW what they are doing with a pizza.. it was soooo good. Mine was a garlic butter sauce base, topped with Mozzerella, cheddar, spoonfuls of seasoned ricotta and then topped with grated romano. And I know... I know a lot of people cannot handle the texture of ricotta - but I LOVE it and this pizza.... sooooo goood. Man I can't say enough about it :) Tyler absolutely loved his also - which was also a Garlic butter sauce base, topped with Mozzerella and cheddar and then massive amounts of chicken finger chunks which had been dipped in wing sauce first. I did steal a bit of his chicken and it was yummy too!

*sigh*... I am NOT sharing my pizza with Kevin (at the office) nope - not this time - sorry!

I should be getting ready for work but...

my 16 yr old son was baptised yesterday. We did a lot yesterday but THIS was the most important. My pastor is on the left, his assistant is on the right, and Ty is in the middle. I am so proud of him. He did this all on his own. He signed up, he made sure he was prepared, and he did it. His girlfriend is in the background with the sweater on. I had to share. Later I'll update with the rest of the weekend and what we did.
